A View From Up North, Eh!

For as long as I can remember, I have been visually drawn to spires and steeples poking through the landscape. It's like this little treasure my eyes look for as I wander through the countryside. I'm not sure why, but I find old, unique architecture so very fascinating. A wee bit magical I think.

So many of the little towns in Southern Ontario have more than their fair share of spires, so I went on a little hunt the other day, with Mom as my personal chauffeur, and Maddie and Jackson passing the Grey Poupon in the back seat.

St. Marys, {and as an FYI, St. Marys does not have an apostrophe in its name and I still can't get used to that} a town of about 6000 people houses five beautiful, old churches {Catholic, Episcopal, United Church of Canada, Baptist, Presbyterian}.

Here are some of my favorite shots:

And while I'm at it, I thought I'd throw in a few other things that shout "I'm in Canada" ....

Spring means maple syrup time. Every so often you'll see random maple trees with buckets collecting sap ... soon to be made into maple syrup. Delisch. Just say NO to Aunt Jemima.

This one was for my brother, Lenny. Wish you could have been home.

Canada does have THE BEST chocolate bars. Way better than America. Sorry, but it's true. This was my favorite growing up. Mirage. ... only topped by my all time favorite ---- Smarties. No worries, you'll see the photo below. Hang on to your pants, people.

And while I'm not a coffee drinker, if you are in Canada for more than 7.6 seconds, you will see approximately 4 of these ... one in every direction.

And so many farms have a Canada flag. I love that and the variety of trees on any given piece of property. I love trees. Weird, I know.

See - I didn't disappoint. SMARTIES.

Tomorrow we leave my Mum and Dad's and head back to Chicago. What a fantastic week it has been. I do love "My home and native land," ESPECIALLY because of my parents.

I miss you already.
