Ken Turns 40

{*Not sure why some of the text is doing weird things on the side. bizarre. Not able to fix it without re-doing it ... and that ain't happenin'.}

One of our favorite people - KEN - turns 40 tomorrow. And we got to celebrate on Saturday. Kristin threw a great party ... golf for the guys ... surprise party afterwards as the guys finished their games.

So fun to watch Ken arrive, realizing who was up on the patio. Very fun.

Kristin being goofy. Nothing new.

Ken's mom is so beautiful. I wonder what it feels like to have a son that's 40. Must be a bit surreal. She loves her boys. For sure.

One of the many things I admire about Ken is the fact that he is just a great, great daddy. He's involved. He jokes. He hugs and squeezes and tells them they're beautiful. He loves on those girls and they will no doubt grow up feeling VERY secure in their daddy's love for them. That will carry them a long, LONG way in life. I really admire that about Ken.

Kristin arranged for a video of Ken's life to be made. Definitely a highlight of the party. Our mutual friend Renee made it and did a fantastic job. So talented that girl.

Part-way through the night Jack gave a little speech and gave Ken a special scrapbook. Let's just say our ideas of what a scrapbook is are very, very different. I married a funny boy. Those two have quite the friendship. Together they are almost unstoppable. A little frightening at times. But always up for a rip-roaring good time.

Isn't Kristin gorgeous? {she's gonna kill me for saying that but it's true, right?}

Two more of our favorite people. Mor mor and Bops.

Birthday boy in his birthday hat. I think Jack called him "Velvet Jones" throughout the golf game. Those two goofs.

I'm so, so thankful that the Lord brought our families together as lifelong friends. Ken, we hope you have the best birthday ever. You are loved and respected. You're fun and talented and great with people. You are generous and hospitable. You give the gift of laughter and acceptance to everyone you meet.

Happy 40th, Ken!
