Playground Observations | Chicagoland Family Photographer | Water Street Dreams
Several times a year I donate mini photo sessions to
different organizations for their fundraising efforts.
from Solomon Elementary School's fundraising gala last winter,
so it was super fun to connect with them
in the woods for 30 minutes
just last week.
just last week.
While I don't really know them
other than saying hi after school
or working alongside each other at
PTO events,
here's what I do know.
Dorothy and Jeff are high school sweethearts;
how awesome is that?!
And they love their boys!
And their boys are so cute!
And active!
And all things boys!
Dorothy and Jeff are both hard workers,
placing value on donating their time and expertise
and skill sets to Solomon Elementary.
If you want to know who stays behind
to do the tasks like emptying garbage
and cleaning up after school events,
it's the Andersons.
In a climate where Chicago Public Schools
are often degraded,
parents like Dorothy and Jeff are
one of the many many great things
about our school system.

I'd like to call Jeff the
'school dad.'
I've seen him after school for years,
playing with the kids.
All.the.kids.
Not just his own boys.
He's the parent on the playground
that the kids run to if the
soccer ball gets hit out in the street.
Or a shoe gets caught in the basketball hoop.
Or if the football inadvertently
ends up on the school roof.
He's present and fun and active
and wants all the kids to have fun, too.
I think the kids fight to be on Mr. Anderson's
team when sides are being picked
on the soccer turf.
On more than one occasion over the years,
when I've seen him
playing sports with the school kids,
encouraging them when they made a great catch,
or passing it to the kid that really doesn't kick the ball well,
I've silently wondered
if his kind 'fatherly' influence
is perhaps the only strong, healthy male
influence some of these kids might know.
I don't know if that's true or not,
but I think it might be.
What I do know for sure is that
Mr. Anderson - Jeff -
really is making a difference
and he's doing so simply
by being himself,
showing up,
and getting involved.
May we all learn from his example.
Dorothy and Jeff,
it sure was a joy to hang out with you for a few minutes
last week.
Thanks for being such great Solomon School parents!
